Founded in the 11th century under Norman rule and reworked many times since, the cathedral layers Gothic and Baroque additions onto its original core. It's dedicated to San Gerlando, the city's first Norman-era bishop.
Its bell tower was never finished, a fact that's oddly easy to miss until it's pointed out. A combined ticket covers the cathedral itself, a climb up that unfinished tower, and the adjoining Diocesan Museum, which holds a strong collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine religious art.
