Villa Bonfiglio is a public garden on Viale della Vittoria, widely considered Agrigento's most scenic street and, usefully, its flattest, a welcome break from the hills that define most of the old town. Originally laid out in 1923 as the Parco della Rimembranza in memory of the fallen of the First World War, a tree was planted for each soldier from Agrigento who died in the conflict.
At the main entrance stands the Monumento ai Caduti, a striking circular fountain built around a marble obelisk topped with a bronze angel representing victory. The names of the fallen are inscribed around its base, alongside two carved relief scenes.
The park itself has a children's playground, shaded paths, and cafes lining the boulevard alongside it. The real draw, though, is the view: Viale della Vittoria runs for over a kilometre along the ridge, with the sea on one side and the Valley of the Temples visible on the other, one of the best panoramas in Agrigento, and one you can enjoy on a level, easy walk.
